“Float Holidays”

It has been brought to the Union’s attention that there were many members who were not aware that they were entitled to a float holiday.

If you are a part-time or full-time seniority employee (completed your probation), you are entitled to one float holiday off with pay to be taken following your birthday. Furthermore, all seniority employees are entitled to two (2) float holidays in 2008.

Collective agreement, article 23 states the following:

Effective the calendar year commencing with January 1st, 2007, a seniority Employees will be entitled to a Float Holiday, which may be taken following the Employee’s Birthday during each year of the term of this Agreement following January 1st, 2007.

Effective the calendar year commencing with January 1st, 2008, a seniority employee will be entitled to a second Float Holiday which may be taken following the Employee’s Anniversary date of employment during each year of the term of this Agreement following January 1st, 2008.

The Float Holiday(s) (including the second Float Holiday when it is in effect) will be scheduled on a date that is mutually agreed upon between the employee and the Company.

Part-time seniority employees, please refer to your Collective Agreement for the remainder of Article 23 to determine your calculation on how many hours you will receive for the float holiday(s).

Please ensure that you book float holidays as early as possible and when possible before using vacation days. We are currently being told that we cannot carry float holidays into the following year, however, we can carry up to 5 vacations days over into the following year.

Note: In the event that your birth date and/or anniversary date are between September and December, you are allowed to book the float holiday between those months.

e.g. If you were born on December 31st – you may book your float holiday any
	        time between September and December.

We encourage the entire Membership to book these float holidays as early as possible in order to avoid any unnecessary conflict between you and the Employer.
